In November 2018, John was awarded the Amelia Award by the Culinary Historians of New York for his groundbreaking work in the field and for his generosity of spirit.


John exhibited some of his vast collection of Haitian
an Outsider Art  in Savannah and was featured in
the local paper in August 2018:


In the spring of 2018, John gave his culinary library to the new state-of-the-art International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach and his papers to the College of Charleston. Here he is pictured at the dedication of the library with Harlan Greene, Archivist at the College of Charleston Special Collections.
